"Whose Hair?" by Christina Christoforou

This fun book, published by Laurence King, contains over 200 original, hand-drawn illustrations of the hairstyles of the rich and famous, from politicians to film-stars, rock stars such as my beloved David Bowie, or Anna Wintour - both portrayed on the image above. It leaves the reader guessing who's behind the hairs. This book is an ironic take on the global celebrity phenomenon.

James Dean is my hero (James Dean / James Franco)

And I actually just realized but James Franco reminds me a lot of Jimmy Dean, he's on the cover of Vogue Hommes. Don't you think?

Quote of the week: Hedi Slimane on the fashion industry

"It seems quite refreshing to be on this side of fashion, to have the distance and freedom. The fashion system has been busy keeping up with broadband and blogging/social networking. It is not always for the best, but it did give fashion a global audience. The unfortunate outcome might be the obsession and collusion between the celebrity culture and high fashion. It is just a big global mess of random endorsement. Nothing looks worse than a dress or a suit on a red carpet. It is an ongoing tragedy of cheap fashion on cheap celebrities, followed by ubercheap comments. I only like designers’ clothes on models. Good models have an inner understanding of the clothes and design." Hedi Slimane in Style File.

Art Dubai 2011 has been a huge success

"Spring 2011 marks a shift in the cultural life of the Gulf,” said Fair Director Antonia Carver, who is in her inaugural year leading Art Dubai. “Never before has there been such a level of international interest in the arts scenes of the MENASA or such a level of regional support for artists and their projects. Galleries at Art Dubai 2011 reported strong sales and the fair offered an unprecedented level of innovative artists’ projects and educational events, which we feel are part of what makes this fair unique."

This year's collateral conferences programme - the Global Art_5 - focused on the theme of Fascination: When Art Met Fashion, unravelling the relationship that has developed between fashion and art over the last few decades, including how fashion houses have become some of the most notable patrons for contemporary art, exactly what my blog is about in a nutshell...

In 2011, Art Dubai coincided with the opening of the 10th Sharjah Biennial, titled Plot for a Biennial. Curated by Suzanne Cotter, Curator, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Project, and Rasha Salti, Creative Director, ArteEast, with Associate Curator Haig Aivazian.

Vivienne Westwood - Do It Yourself documentary by ARTE

Arte Editions expands its range of documentaries about fashion, with a sweet portrait of Lady Vivienne Westwood, filmed between 2009 and 2010 - in London and Paris by filmakers Jean-Marie Sztalryd and Letmina Sztalryd. The 58-minute documentary explores the close relationship with her husband Andreas Kronthaler, as well as her activist philosophy. In fact one of the best moments of the film is said to her introduction to her manifesto "Active Resistance to Propaganda". According to Westwood culture and art are the best antidote to propaganda.  I AGREE.

If you happen to have a copy, would you be able to send me one please?
Thanks.

Louis Vuitton's honey inspired installation

Passing in front of the LV shop of Barcelona, I noticed the beautiful window display. "As Sweet as Honey", Louis Vuitton shop windows feature bags and shoes dripping with honey and it looks as if inspired by Dali.

These installations are also surrounded by bees, which highlights the global need for sustainable development, of which nectar and pollen gathering insects play an important role.
The campaign has been in the works since 2009 when three beehives were installed on the roof of the Louis Vuitton headquarters in Paris.

Throughout 2010 more than 200,000 bees gathered 75kg of nectar, from which the golden honey was produced...

Björk to unveil new project the Manchester Festival

The beautiful and amazing Björk will premiere her new project at the next Manchester Festival where she will stay in residency for a three-weeks. "Biophilia" is said to be her most ambitious project to date, reflecting today's issues related to technology, sound sytems and the internet. I am so looking forward to it. The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic, is also a performance I am excited about... No doubt Björk will be there too, she's Antony's close friend and he's collaborated on this project.

Egon Schiele's exhibition at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna

Egon Schiele had a huge impact on me. His paintings featuring decaying people and dark faces have always fascinated me...

The exhibition held at the beautiful Belvedere Museum in Vienna is the first to focus on his Self-Portraits and Portraits. It can be visited until 13th June this year. Don't miss it!

Why do all Directors / Designers resign?

Further to the recent Galliano's drama, more changes are impacting some of the fashion houses' Management Directions: Milan Vukmirovic, Artistic Director at Trussardi since 2007 resigned this week for obscure reasons while Clare Waight Keller, Director of Pringle of Scotland since 2005, has announced her departure from the Scottish label.

Who is next on the list? And why are they leaving? Too much pressure, no real creative power? I wonder... What do you think?
